Don and Colleen Scharfe opened RMO in the summer of 1976 as an outdoor sports specialty store with the idea of making a living selling outdoor equipment and helping others prepare themselves for outdoor adventures. On April 1st, 2018, longtime shop manager Jandy Cox took over ownership of the store. We are the people you will meet in the mountains climbing, skiing, backpacking and hiking.  We are here to share information and equipment tips.

Over the years, opportunities have presented themselves to expand to larger locations.  We’ve never taken the “bait”.  We feel we provide customer service that is impossible for larger shops to offer.  We opened at 135 Main Street, Downtown Kalispell, and we remain here. We’ve never left the passion or forgotten the mission: we are an outdoor sports specialty shop here to help you prepare for your outdoor adventures.
